COVID-19 vaccine – Frequently asked questions & reminders for staff and medical staffDecember 22, 2020
As you may know, there is a great amount of interest in this vaccination campaign. To help ensure that the clinic is able to immunize as many long-term care staff members as possible without disruption, we ask that you not share details of the clinic publicly and refrain from posting images or information on social media accounts, to help protect the privacy of those visiting the clinic. Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation.
COVID-19 vaccination clinic update
We had a terrific response to our first COVID-19 immunization clinic last week, and we’re happy to report we administered 1,999 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to long-term care and front-line acute care staff in Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH). In the week ahead, we will be operating three COVID-19 immunization clinics which will run in Vancouver, the North Shore and Richmond, with a continued focus on the priority group of staff from long-term care sites in VCH. We have received delivery of 9,750 vaccine doses for these clinics.
At this time, we will continue to prioritize vaccinations for staff of long-term care facilities. Most COVID-19 deaths in B.C. are amongst residents of long-term care facilities experiencing outbreaks, and the vaccination of staff at these sites can prevent introduction of the virus and help curtail ongoing outbreaks.
We understand that many of our staff, including those acute care staff working in ED, ICU, and COVID-19 medicine units, wish to get vaccinated. We would like to reassure you that further vaccine shipments will be arriving over the coming weeks and other staff, including those who work in high-risk environments, will be prioritized for vaccination.
We appreciate your willingness to be flexible, and your understanding of the logistical challenges in organizing mass immunization clinics for a vaccination program of such an unprecedented scale. We look forward to further expanding our immunization program in the weeks ahead.
