At Vancouver Coastal Health, we aim to promote a sense of belonging where we can bring our whole selves to work. Equity, diversity and inclusion is integral to creating workplaces that are intentionally welcoming to individuals of all dimensions of identity.
In 2022, 19 per cent of staff and medical staff identified as members of the Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, Intersex, Asexual communities and individuals of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities (2SLGBTQIA+) in the Self-Identification and Workplace Experience survey. In response to the information collected in the survey, and from additional medical staff survey and focus groups, in March 2023, a 2SLGBTQIA+ affinity group was launched, meeting both online and in-person.
The group is open to all staff and medical staff who identify as part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, and allies are welcome at some in-person events. The purpose is to build connection and support, and facilitate networking, information sharing, feedback and ideas on creating a more inclusive VCH, with the focus of this group evolving collaboratively with those attending.
