The VGH OR Renewal – Phase 2 business plan was announced in May 2022​. In Phase 2, VGH is replacing the current surgical suite on the second floor. This will be completed in two phases resulting in 13​ more operating rooms (ORs) with 2 additional fitted, non-equipped ORs for future expansion and 38 ad​ditional new perioperative patient bays in the Phil & Jennie Gaglardi Surgical Centre.

In May 2021, Phase 1 of the VGH OR Renewal Project was completed -​ Phil & Jennie Gaglardi Surgical Centre at VGH opened with 16 new state-of-the-art operating rooms and a 40-bay pre-operative and post recovery area.
