As preparations for our fall 2022 Clinical & Systems Transformation (CST) project implementation at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) continue, we are excited to share updates on new developments and how we are supporting you to get ready. Our VCH-Vancouver CST implementation team, in collaboration with the CST project team, are moving key readiness activities along:
- 40 Per cent of CST Cerner design sessions are now complete. The remaining sessions will continue into the late spring. Thank you to all who have participated so far – your input is critical to ensuring the system meet our specific needs.
- Early device deployments have begun. You'll start to see CST device team members popping up on your units to deploy or demonstrate various CST devices, including medication delivery carts (MDCs), workstations on wheels (WOWs), label printers and Tap N Go technology. Their arrival on our units is one of the first tangible signs that going live with CST Cerner is just around the corner! Look for these devices on your unit in the coming months.
- Early practice change education for staff and medical staff is continuing. Sites live with CST Cerner highlight this as an important early adoption activity to help get ready for CST. Familiarization demos of CST Cerner are also happening in program areas giving staff and medical staff a sneak peek of the system. Planning for other training and adoption activities is well underway, and we look forward to sharing more information in the coming weeks.
- A dedicated working group focused on 'split activation' (temporarily using two electronic systems – CST Cerner and PCIS) is meeting regularly to focus on known risks related to the current state workflows resulting from live and non-live sites and to develop strategies to minimize impact to staff and providers.
To learn more about our preparations for go-live, please join us and members of the CST implementation team for our CST All-Staff Forum webcast on May 4 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Then, immediately after the forum you're invited to the CST Fair from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Paetzold Atrium to watch live demonstrations of CST devices such as MDCs, WOWs and Tap N Go devices. Find event details in this bulletin below.
In the coming weeks and months, there will be many more activities and initiatives to support you in preparing for go-live this fall. We will continue to keep you posted in future e-bulletin issues. You can also check Transformation Central for regular updates.
We know that CST is a monumental transition for us all. Remember that we are here to support you, and it will be worth it!
Sincerely,
Michelle de Moor, Vice President, Vancouver Acute & Executive Director, VCH-Vancouver CST
